Vietnamese Fugitive Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Patong, Phuket

Phuket Immigration police have arrested a 24-year-old Vietnamese national who was wanted internationally under an Interpol Red Notice in connection with allegations of fraud and embezzlement involving millions of baht.

The suspect, identified only as Mr Nguyen, had reportedly been living and working in Patong after Vietnamese authorities issued an international arrest warrant. Phuket Immigration officers launched surveillance after receiving information about his whereabouts and eventually located him outside a shop on Rat-Uthit 200 Year Road in Patong.

A special operations team led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Adisorn Boonchum confirmed Nguyen’s identity at the scene. Officers informed him that his temporary permission to remain in Thailand had been revoked under the Immigration Act of 1979. Nguyen, who reportedly speaks and understands Thai well, acknowledged the proceedings before being taken into custody.

The arrest came after Vietnam’s Interpol office formally requested assistance from Thai authorities in locating the suspect. Nguyen is wanted in connection with allegations of large-scale property fraud and embezzlement. Following the request, Immigration Division 6 cancelled his permission to stay in the Kingdom.

Nguyen remains in custody at Phuket Immigration while the necessary legal procedures are carried out. Thai authorities are also coordinating with their Vietnamese counterparts over the next steps, including the process related to his possible extradition to Vietnam.
