Russian Motorcyclist, 29, Killed in Collision with Mercedes-Benz in Phuket
A 29-year-old Russian man died after his motorcycle collided with a Mercedes-Benz on Chalermprakiat Rama 9 Road in Phuket on November 5. Police are investigating the circumstances of the crash and have not yet determined who was responsible.

Mueang Phuket Police Station received a report of the fatal accident at approximately 8:55pm and sent officers to the scene in Rassada.
The motorcyclist, identified as Ilia Eid, was found lying on the road with multiple injuries. Police confirmed that he had died at the scene.
His yellow Triumph motorcycle was discovered nearby with extensive collision damage. A black Mercedes-Benz sedan was also at the scene, showing damage to its rear bumper. The car was driven by a 45-year-old Thai woman identified as Phatcharin.

One preliminary account indicated that the motorcycle had been travelling at high speed before colliding with the Mercedes-Benz as the car was making a U-turn. However, investigators have not reached a final conclusion about the cause of the accident or which driver was at fault. The Mercedes-Benz driver remained under police questioning.
Some social media users who said they lived in the area also claimed that the foreign motorcyclist regularly rode at high speeds and made excessive noise. Police have not confirmed these allegations.
The fatal crash comes amid wider concerns about road safety among foreign visitors in Thailand. According to figures released by the Road Accident Victims Protection Company in October, an average of 120 foreign tourists die in road accidents in Thailand each year. A total of 91 foreign tourist deaths had been recorded during the first nine months of 2026.

Two other fatal motorcycle accidents involving foreign nationals were reported in Thailand last month. In Phuket, a Filipino motorcyclist died after a lorry struck his motorcycle from behind while he was stopped at a pedestrian crossing.
In Pattaya, a Russian motorcyclist was killed after reportedly losing control of his bike on Sukhumvit Road. He was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a tree.
