Transformer Explosion Sparks Fire at Patong Restaurant

Phuket authorities are reminding businesses and residents to pay close attention to electrical safety during the rainy season after a transformer explosion triggered a major fire at a restaurant in Patong.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 p.m. on July 2 at the Isaan restaurant Zaab Rang Saeng Khong on Phra Mettha Road. Although no one was injured, the restaurant suffered extensive damage, and financial losses are expected to be significant.

According to the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department (PR Phuket), citing Patong Deputy Mayor Sanakorn Keesin, firefighters arrived at the scene within five minutes of receiving the emergency call. Crews managed to contain the blaze before it spread to neighboring buildings, including several nearby cannabis shops.

While surrounding businesses were protected, the restaurant itself was heavily damaged by the fire.

Authorities have not yet determined what caused the transformer to explode, and no information has been released regarding possible responsibility for the incident or compensation for the losses.

The owners of Zaab Rang Saeng Khong later addressed customers on social media, describing the fire as one of the most difficult moments in the restaurant's history.

"Today has been a day of shock and tears. Watching the restaurant that we built together being destroyed by fire is heartbreaking. But the most important thing is that every member of our team is safe. No one was injured," the statement said.

The restaurant announced that it will remain closed while repairs are carried out. Owners said the building and all technical systems will be completely restored to ensure the highest possible level of safety before reopening.

Although they admitted they are still coming to terms with the incident, the owners pledged to rebuild the restaurant and return stronger.

"We won't give up. We'll repair everything as quickly as possible, make the restaurant even more beautiful than before, and serve even better food. We look forward to welcoming everyone back."
