Trailer Wheel Breaks Loose and Seriously Injures Motorcyclist at Phuket Traffic Lights

A large trailer wheel came loose and struck a motorcycle stopped at a red light in Koh Kaeo, Mueang Phuket, seriously injuring the female rider on September 22.

Mueang Phuket Police were called to the Koh Kaeo Intersection at around 2pm to investigate the accident and assist the injured woman, whose identity was not released.

According to the report, the wheel detached as the trailer approached the intersection and then hit the motorcycle while it was waiting at the traffic lights.

The impact threw the woman from the motorcycle and knocked her unconscious. She remained unresponsive until passers-by reached her and called emergency services.

The trailer stopped at the scene, where its driver waited for an insurance assessor. The accident caused traffic congestion, and police called technicians to move the trailer and reopen the road.

The woman was reported to be seriously injured, but no further information about her condition or the hospital where she was taken was provided.

No charges had been reported, and the reason the wheel came loose was not disclosed.

Other wheel-detachment accidents in Thailand

Similar accidents involving detached truck or trailer wheels have occurred elsewhere in Thailand.

In June last year, a truck wheel struck an SUV driven by a female doctor in Udon Thani. The impact damaged the driver's side door, but the doctor suffered only minor injuries.

A month later, a Thai male nurse sustained a serious head injury after two truck wheels hit his SUV on a road in Pathum Thani. The impact severely damaged the roof and windscreen, while the wheels came to rest on the back seat.

In December 2024, a delivery worker was seriously injured after being struck by a large wheel from a trailer truck while standing on the side of a road.

Also in 2024, a 14-year-old driver lost control of a pickup truck after one of its wheels detached while the vehicle was moving. No one was injured in that incident.
