Tourist Longtail Boat Capsizes Near Hong Island, Seven Injured

Seven people were injured and taken to hospital after a tourist longtail boat capsized and sank during an excursion in the waters of Phang Nga Bay on the morning of August 15. A total of 12 people, including several children, were on board at the time of the incident.

The Regional Maritime Security Centre (ThaiMECC Region 3) received an emergency report at approximately 11:15 a.m. and immediately coordinated a response.

When rescue teams arrived at the scene near Hang Nak Cape in Krabi Province, the tourist vessel Andaman Tour had already overturned and was floating upside down in the sea.

A nearby speedboat operated by Sayang Tour was the first to assist the passengers and crew. Those rescued were later transported safely to Khlong Muang Beach.

According to preliminary information, the boat was carrying 10 foreign tourists, a tour guide and the captain. All occupants were successfully evacuated from the water.

Medical treatment was required for seven people. One passenger suffered a broken arm, while six others sustained minor injuries. Authorities reported that none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.

ThaiMECC Region 3 stated that the vessel had departed from Ao Nang and was heading toward Hong Island when the accident occurred. The exact cause of the capsizing has not yet been determined.
