Three Arrested in Phuket Over Illegal Entertainment Venues Employing Minors

Three people have been arrested in Phuket following police raids on two restaurants accused of operating as unlicensed entertainment venues and employing workers under the age of 18.

The operation was carried out on the night of June 9 by officers from Wichit Police Station, who were investigating reports that several establishments in the area were violating entertainment and child protection laws.

During the first inspection, officers visited a restaurant in Wichit and allegedly found evidence indicating that the venue was operating without the required authorization. Police also discovered that minors were being employed on the premises. The restaurant manager, a 41-year-old man identified as Mr. Ji, was arrested at the scene.

Authorities charged him with operating an entertainment venue without a license, employing workers under the age of 18 without permission, and allowing or encouraging minors to engage in inappropriate activities or situations that could expose them to criminal risks.

A second raid took place at another restaurant on Chao Fah East Road. Investigators reported finding similar violations and detained two women, identified as 42-year-old Ms. Pim and 38-year-old Ms. Ju.

Both suspects face charges of jointly operating an unauthorized entertainment venue, employing underage workers, and permitting or facilitating conduct that could place minors in inappropriate or potentially dangerous situations.

Police collected evidence from both locations and transferred the three suspects to Wichit Police Station for further legal proceedings.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to crack down on illegal entertainment businesses and violations involving the employment of minors in Phuket.
