Thailand remains under a heavy rain alert through September 27, with Bangkok, surrounding provinces and several parts of central and eastern Thailand facing the risk of very heavy rainfall and flash flooding.

The Thai Meteorological Department said a strong low-pressure area over lower central Thailand and Bangkok, combined with an increasingly active southwest monsoon, is expected to keep rainfall widespread across the country.

Areas being closely monitored on September 26 include Bangkok and nearby provinces, much of central Thailand, as well as parts of the North, Northeast, East and upper South. The forecast warns of very heavy rain in provinces including Tak, Phetchabun, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan, Ayutthaya, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Chon Buri, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat.

The weather is also expected to affect marine conditions. Waves of 2–3 metres are forecast in the upper Gulf of Thailand and upper Andaman Sea, with waves exceeding 3 metres possible during thunderstorms.

Mariners are advised to avoid areas affected by storms, while small boats in the affected waters should remain ashore through September 27.

The threat of very heavy rain is expected to ease in some areas on September 27, although Bangkok and its surrounding provinces will remain under close observation.

Heavy rainfall may also continue in Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Suphan Buri, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Chanthaburi and Trat.

Authorities and residents in affected areas are advised to remain alert to the possibility of flash flooding and other weather-related hazards as the monsoon continues to strengthen.
