Thailand’s Ministry of Education has ordered schools across the country to strengthen security measures following a deadly shooting at a school in Nonthaburi province on August 7.

Education Minister Prasert Chandraruangthong instructed schools to review their existing security procedures and take additional steps to protect students, teachers and other people on school grounds. Authorities have also been directed to provide psychological support to those affected by the incident.

The ministry is working with the Faculty of Psychology at Chulalongkorn University and mental health agencies to provide psychologists and specialists trained in Psychological First Aid. Counseling and follow-up care will be offered to people directly affected by the shooting, witnesses and others experiencing emotional distress following the incident.

Prasert also called on media organisations and members of the public to report on the incident responsibly. He urged people not to publish or circulate the name, photograph or other identifying details of the person responsible.

The minister said attention should remain focused on helping those affected recover and on sharing information that could contribute to preventing similar incidents in the future.

As part of the nationwide security measures, schools have been instructed to review controls at entrances and exits and increase checks on people and vehicles entering school premises. They have also been told to organise emergency response drills in cooperation with local security agencies.

Schools are further expected to establish clear channels for reporting suspicious activity and develop early-warning systems that can help authorities respond more quickly to potential threats.

The measures follow the deadly incident at Depsirin Nonthaburi School, where authorities reported multiple deaths and injuries. The attack has renewed concerns over school safety and prompted the Education Ministry to call for stronger prevention and emergency-response procedures nationwide.
