Thailand Issues Flood and Landslide Warning for 71 Provinces and Bangkok

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a warning for 71 provinces and Bangkok over the risk of flash floods, forest runoff, landslides and flooding through September 13.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is forecast in many parts of the country, prompting authorities to urge people living in vulnerable areas to closely monitor weather conditions, rainfall and water levels and prepare for possible emergencies.

The alert covers all provinces in the North, Northeast and Central regions, as well as Bangkok and nine southern provinces: Chumphon, Surat Thani, Narathiwat, Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi, Trang and Satun.

Authorities said areas that receive more than 90 millimetres of rain within 24 hours face a higher risk of flooding, forest runoff and landslides.

Residents in at-risk communities are advised to prepare essential supplies, plan alternative travel routes and be ready to evacuate if instructed by authorities.

Visitors heading to natural attractions such as caves and waterfalls are also urged to pay close attention to official warnings. People should avoid caves with underground waterways and any other locations that authorities have declared unsafe during periods of heavy rainfall.

Official emergency warnings can be monitored through the THAI DISASTER ALERT application. Members of the public can report emergencies or request assistance through the DDPM LINE account or by calling the Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Hotline 1784, which operates around the clock.

DDPM also encouraged people to share official warnings with family members, friends and others living in vulnerable areas so they have enough time to prepare for potentially dangerous conditions.
