Thailand Government Offices to Close for Three Consecutive Days at the End of July

Government offices across Thailand, including the Phuket Immigration Office, will operate for only two days during the final week of July, as the country observes three consecutive public holidays.

State agencies will be closed from July 28 to July 30, meaning that, out of the last seven days of the month, only July 27 and July 31 will be regular working days.

The holiday period begins on July 28, marking the birthday of His Majesty the King. It is followed by two important Buddhist holidays: Asanha Bucha on July 29 and the beginning of Buddhist Lent (Khao Phansa) on July 30.

During these three days, Immigration Bureau offices, district administration offices, the Department of Land Transport and most other government agencies will remain closed.

Most bank branches will also suspend operations, although branches located inside shopping malls are expected to remain open under their normal schedules.

There will be no nationwide alcohol sales ban on July 28, the King's Birthday. However, alcohol sales will be prohibited for the following 48 hours during Asanha Bucha and Khao Phansa on July 29 and 30.

Thai regulations provide exemptions for licensed entertainment venues, hotels and international airports. Nevertheless, Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum has previously reminded business operators that ordinary bars and restaurants should not assume they are automatically exempt from the restrictions.

Businesses found violating the alcohol sales ban may face up to six months' imprisonment, a fine of up to 10,000 baht, or both penalties.
