Swedish Woman Wanted by Interpol Arrested in Phuket Ahead of Deportation

A Swedish national sought under an Interpol Red Notice on fraud-related charges was arrested in Phuket on August 4 after immigration officers located her on the island.

According to police, the suspect, identified only as Felicia, is accused of participating in a large-scale fraud scheme together with more than 14 accomplices. Investigators allege that, in early 2022, the group impersonated representatives of banks and financial institutions, making more than 163 fraudulent phone calls that convinced victims to transfer money. Authorities estimate the total financial damage exceeded 60 million baht.

Immigration officers tracked the woman to Wichit, where she was detained at around 2 p.m. after officials confirmed her identity. Records showed she entered Thailand through Ranong Customs Pier on January 31 using a tourist visa valid until March 31. She later received an extension from Phuket Immigration that allowed her to remain in the country until August 31.

Following her arrest, authorities revoked her permission to stay in Thailand. She has been transferred to Phuket Immigration and will be deported to Sweden in accordance with Thai immigration procedures.

The Immigration Bureau said it will continue cooperating with both Thai and international law enforcement agencies to identify and arrest fugitives wanted under international warrants.

Officials also reiterated that Thailand will not serve as a safe haven for transnational criminals or foreign nationals considered a threat to national security or public order.

The bureau highlighted a similar case earlier this year, when a Russian national wanted through Interpol was arrested in central Phuket. Police said the suspect had fled Russia to avoid prosecution. He was identified as a construction contractor accused of collusion in a project that allegedly caused financial losses exceeding 100 million baht.
