Swedish Man’s Unpaid Patong Storage Locker Found Filled With Guns and Ammunition

Police in Phuket are investigating after staff at a storage rental facility in Patong discovered multiple firearms and ammunition inside a locker rented by a Swedish national who had reportedly stopped paying rent for more than four months.

The incident came to light after representatives of Mespace Self Storage Patong, located inside Jungceylon shopping mall in Patong, contacted officers from Patong Police Station on May 12. Employees requested police assistance after opening locker No. 2184 on the second floor and finding weapons stored inside.

According to company representative Kirakorn Chiawchan, the locker had been rented under the name Elmi Ahmed Mohamed, a Swedish citizen. The renter allegedly failed to make payments for more than 120 days, and staff were unable to contact him despite repeated attempts.

Following internal company procedures, employees opened the storage unit to inspect its contents. During the inspection, they discovered several firearms and ammunition, items prohibited under the company’s rental policy, and immediately informed authorities.

Police investigators later inspected the locker and recovered four Glock 9mm pistols, one CZ pistol, and two boxes of 9mm ammunition containing a total of 100 rounds.

All weapons and ammunition were seized for forensic examination and legal verification. Preliminary checks indicated that the firearms were officially registered, but investigators are still determining whether the Swedish renter possessed them legally and whether any laws were violated.

At the time of publication, the Swedish national had not been located, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The case follows another recent weapons-related arrest in Phuket involving a New Zealand expatriate who was found in possession of firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices during a police operation in Kathu district.
