Authorities in Patong have taken seven French tourists into custody after their Songkran celebrations disrupted traffic on Prachanukhro Road near Malin Market.

Police reported that the group was splashing water in the roadway in a way that interfered with passing vehicles and caused inconvenience to others. After receiving complaints from local residents, officers arrived at the scene, intervened, and detained the individuals for creating a public disturbance.

The tourists were subsequently handed over to investigators, and legal proceedings are now underway.

Officials also clarified that this case is not linked to viral claims circulating online, which alleged that foreign tourists had deliberately splashed water at police officers stationed at Songkran checkpoints. In addition, another widely shared video showing water being thrown at a moving van has not resulted in any official complaint, as no affected individuals have come forward.

Following the incident, police issued a warning to local businesses and residents, urging them to avoid placing water containers or engaging in water fights on roads and sidewalks if it disrupts traffic. Authorities emphasized that stricter enforcement measures will remain in place throughout the festival to ensure public safety and order.
