Six Hospitalised After Hat Yai–Phuket Bus Crashes in Phang Nga

Six people were taken to hospital after an interprovincial bus travelling from Hat Yai to Phuket crashed in Phang Nga early on August 29. The bus struck a power pole near the final section of its journey, shortly before reaching Phuket.

Emergency responders received a report of the accident at around 4:42am. The crash occurred at a traffic-light intersection in Khok Kloi, opposite the new bus terminal.

According to Kusoldharm Loma rescue workers, 22 people were on board the bus at the time of the accident. The driver and conductor suffered the most serious injuries and were both transported to hospital in critical condition.

The 58-year-old female conductor sustained a deep laceration to her head and reportedly could not remember what had happened after the crash.

The 62-year-old driver suffered a serious injury to his right leg and became trapped inside the damaged driver's cabin. Rescue workers had to use hydraulic rescue equipment to free him from the wreckage.

Four other passengers sustained less severe injuries. A 73-year-old man complained of pain around his left ribs, while a 20-year-old man suffered a bruised left thigh. A 69-year-old woman sustained a head injury, and a 46-year-old female passenger reported pain in her left knee.

All six injured people were taken to Takua Thung Hospital for medical treatment. The remaining passengers stayed at the scene following the crash, and no additional injuries were reported.

The cause of the accident has not yet been established. Police from Khok Kloi Police Station are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
