Shirtless Foreigner Detained After Disturbance and Alleged Theft Attempt in Phuket

A foreign man was taken into custody by police in Phuket after allegedly causing a disturbance at a convenience store and attempting to take items from outside a local resident’s home on June 1.

The incident gained attention after a Phuket resident shared a video on Facebook showing police officers confronting the shirtless man outside her property.

According to the homeowner, the foreigner entered the area around her house, sat outside the residence, and allegedly tried to take several belongings that had been left outdoors.

“He suddenly appeared outside my home and started banging on the door. He also tried to take a raincoat and a motorcycle helmet. If my motorcycle key had been left outside, I believe he might have taken the bike as well,” the woman wrote online.

She explained that she attempted to remove the man from the property herself but was unable to do so. Police arrived shortly afterward and intervened.

The resident added that she had not contacted authorities directly. Instead, staff at a nearby convenience store reportedly alerted police after the same individual allegedly created a disturbance at their premises before heading to the residential area.

Footage shared on social media showed the man wearing only orange shorts while sitting on the ground near the house. Officers were seen searching his backpack, while one policeman appeared to be examining his passport and speaking with him. During the encounter, the foreigner briefly lay down on the ground in front of the officers.

The video did not capture the conversation, and no additional details about the outcome were provided by the homeowner.

As of now, Phuket police have not released the man’s identity, nationality, or information regarding any charges that may have been filed.

The incident follows several recent cases involving foreign nationals in Phuket. Last month, a British man was reported for carrying a knife near a luxury villa in Chalong and was accused of damaging property, including motorcycle seats and a business sign. In another case in Pattaya earlier this year, a foreigner behaved aggressively after being awakened by a motorcycle taxi rider while sleeping on a roadway.
