Russian Passenger Arrested in Phuket with Large Cache of Narcotics on Pattaya Bus

A Russian man was arrested at Phuket’s Tha Chatchai checkpoint after police allegedly discovered a large quantity of illegal drugs hidden inside his luggage during a routine inspection of an interprovincial bus arriving from Pattaya.

According to officers from Tha Chatchai Police Station, the suspect was identified as 29-year-old Mr. Gorskii, a Russian national traveling on a Phuket–Pattaya bus route.

Police said officers became suspicious after noticing the man behaving nervously while the vehicle was being inspected at the checkpoint. Investigators reported that the suspect allegedly attempted to distance himself from a bag by pushing it away with his feet as police approached.

When officers requested identification documents, the man was reportedly unable to produce a passport, prompting a detailed search of his belongings.

Inside a red-and-black shoulder bag, police allegedly discovered multiple packages containing various narcotic substances. Authorities said the seized drugs included approximately 564.74 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 471.92 grams of mephedrone, 129.8 grams of heroin, 51 grams of ecstasy (MDMA), 54.6 grams of amphetamine, and 582 grams of ketamine.

In addition to the drugs, officers also confiscated two mobile phones, a MacBook laptop, and 11,320 baht in cash.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officers from Provincial Police Region 8 and Phuket Provincial Police, with checkpoint and investigation teams from Tha Chatchai Police Station leading the arrest.

Thai authorities have charged the suspect with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, one of the most serious drug-related offences under Thai law.

Police stated that investigators are continuing to expand the case to determine whether the suspect may be connected to a wider drug trafficking network operating in Thailand.
