Russian Crime Syndicate Leader Arrested in Phuket on Extradition Request

Immigration officers in Phuket have arrested a Russian national wanted by authorities in his home country on allegations of leading an organized crime syndicate.

According to Phuket Immigration, the suspect was apprehended during an operation in Chalong on July 25, 2026. The raid was carried out under a search warrant issued by the Phuket Provincial Court after investigators located the man following an official extradition request submitted by Russian authorities through diplomatic channels.

Officials said the suspect had overstayed his visa in Thailand and was also the subject of an extradition warrant issued by the Criminal Court in Bangkok.

Russian authorities accuse the man of heading a large criminal organization allegedly linked to serious transnational offenses and large-scale fraud that caused significant financial losses.

The arrest followed a joint investigation involving Thailand’s Immigration Bureau, the Office of the Attorney General, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Russian law enforcement agencies. After several weeks of surveillance, investigators gathered enough evidence to obtain a court-approved search warrant and carry out the arrest.

The suspect has been charged under Thailand’s Immigration Act for overstaying his permitted period of stay. He was transferred to Chalong Police Station, where legal proceedings will continue before the case moves forward under Thailand’s Extradition Act of 2008 and applicable international agreements.
