Phuket Town Begins Final Phase of Power Line Removal on Thepkrasattri Road

Authorities in Phuket Town have moved into the final stage of a major infrastructure upgrade, beginning the removal of overhead power lines and utility poles along Thepkrasattri Road.

The works cover the section between Wat Khosit Wihan and Satree Phuket School, an area that includes the Honda Big Wing showroom. Starting April 28, crews will begin dismantling electrical systems, communication cables, and the supporting poles.

A symbolic launch ceremony took place on April 25 near the entrance to Wat Khosit Wihan. The event was attended by Deputy Mayor Prasit Sinsawapak, along with representatives from the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA), the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), and other relevant agencies.

According to the project timeline, removal of high- and low-voltage infrastructure is scheduled for April 28–29, progressing in stages along the road. The dismantling of utility poles will follow on May 2–3, also carried out in two phases.

Municipal officials noted that construction will primarily affect one side of Thepkrasattri Road—the lane heading toward the city center. Work will take place daily from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Even partial lane closures may cause congestion in both directions, given the importance of this route.

Despite potential disruptions, previous experience offers reassurance. Similar works on Phuket Road near the Immigration Bureau and Bang Neow Shrine were completed efficiently, even ahead of schedule.

Officials emphasized that while the removal of poles takes only a few days, the most time-consuming part of the project has already been completed—relocating cables underground, a process that required several months.

At the same time, a new phase of the underground cabling initiative has recently begun in Patong, where authorities are focusing on improving the visual landscape along beachfront roads and around Bangla Road.
