Tourism leaders from Phuket have, for the first time, carried out a large-scale promotional tour in the United States, introducing the island’s travel offerings to key industry partners on both coasts. While similar trips to Australia and Russia have been held regularly, this marked Phuket’s debut in the American market in such a format.

During the April campaign across North America, representatives of the Phuket Tourist Association (PTA), led by Thanet Tantipiriyakij, visited Washington, D.C., and Los Angeles, where separate business events were organized.
According to the PTA, the initiative—titled “Amazing Thailand Phuket Roadshow to USA 2026”—was conducted in collaboration with the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organization (PPAO) and supported by the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The project represents Phuket’s first official, targeted effort to promote the island directly to U.S.-based travel operators.

The roadshow forms part of a broader strategy aimed at strengthening Phuket’s position in the long-haul, high-value tourism segment. The U.S. market, in particular, has been identified as a key source of steady growth, with American travelers showing increasing interest in Thailand.
It is worth noting that the events focused specifically on Phuket rather than Thailand as a whole. More than 40 American tourism companies attended the Washington session, while each Los Angeles event attracted at least 30 industry representatives.
Industry data suggests that the U.S. market continues to expand, with annual growth exceeding 10%. In total, American visitors account for more than one million arrivals to Thailand each year, highlighting strong potential for further development of this segment for Phuket.
However, accurately measuring direct tourist flows from the United States to Phuket remains challenging. Many travelers enter Thailand via Bangkok and continue to the island on domestic flights, meaning their initial entry is recorded elsewhere.
Immigration statistics indicate that Phuket Airport processed 109,300 U.S. arrivals in 2024, rising to 121,300 in 2025—an increase of 11%. In the first quarter of 2026, the number reached 36,900, compared to 36,000 during the same period last year, reflecting a 2.5% growth.
Most American travelers reach Phuket through major Asian transit hubs such as Singapore, Hong Kong, and South Korea, rather than via Middle Eastern routes.
