Phuket to Host Asia’s First InterPride World Conference
Phuket has begun training government employees, hospitality professionals and local business representatives ahead of the InterPride General Meeting and World Conference 2026, which will be the first event of its kind held in Asia.

The training programme began on October 21, ahead of the conference scheduled for October 29 to November 1. Additional pre-conference activities are planned for October 28, according to InterPride’s published schedule.
The event is expected to bring together 400–500 LGBTQIAN+ representatives from more than 70 countries. Discussions will focus on human rights, gender equality and empowering communities.
More than 1,000 Thai volunteers are expected to help welcome delegates. Thailand is also set to formally present its bid to host WorldPride 2030 during the conference. Bangkok and Barcelona have reportedly emerged as the two cities competing to host the event.
Phuket Deputy Governor Romdon Hayiawae said the island’s selection reflected cooperation between government agencies, private businesses and civil society organisations. He also highlighted the conference’s significance for Thailand’s international meetings and tourism industries.

Training for inclusive hospitality
The training focused on cultural awareness and inclusive service, preparing frontline staff to welcome international visitors from different backgrounds and respond to their needs appropriately.
Representatives of TransTalents Consulting Group and Dusit Thani College led sesions covering international service standards and practical approaches to assisting diverse groups of visitors.
Participants also worked through simulated scenarios to practise applying the knowledge in real-life situations.
The programme brought together government officials, private-sector representatives, business operators, students and employees from various industries.
Organisers said the training was particularly important for immigration officers, volunteers, hotel employees, retailers and event personnel who are likely to interact directly with conference delegates.
Deputy Governor Romdon said preparations for international events should involve more than venues and infrastructure. Staff and service providers also play a key role in ensuring visitors receive safe, welcoming and inclusive treatment.
