Phuket Steps Up Anti-Drug Campaign Under Nationwide “Operation 90 Days”

Authorities in Phuket have intensified anti-drug enforcement as part of the Ministry of Interior’s nationwide “Operation 90 Days”, leading to the arrest of two suspects during a raid in Muang District.

The operation took place at around 8:30 p.m. on July 3 in Soi Mukdee, Rawai Subdistrict, after officials received complaints from local residents about suspected drug-related activities in the area.

The raid was carried out by the Rachasri Narai Unit, a special task force under the Muang Phuket District Office, led by Chief Administrative Officer Akara Suwattikul. Officers from the Office of the Narcotics Control Board and members of the territorial defense volunteer corps also participated in the operation.

Two suspects were taken into custody during the raid.

The first, a Thai national, was allegedly found carrying 88 methamphetamine tablets. He has been charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to distribute.

The second suspect, a Myanmar national, was arrested after allegedly driving while under the influence of drugs. Officers also recovered 0.28 grams of crystal methamphetamine during the search.

Both suspects and the seized narcotics were handed over to investigators at Chalong Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Phuket Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom, Deputy Governor Khetarat Chansilp, and Acting Provincial Clerk Siwatch Rawangkul reaffirmed the province's commitment to expanding cooperation between government agencies in the fight against drug trafficking and abuse.

Officials said sustained enforcement and preventive measures will continue throughout the province to improve public safety and strengthen community well-being under the nationwide anti-narcotics campaign.
