Phuket’s Second Waste Incinerator Scheduled to Begin Operations in 2027

Phuket authorities have confirmed that construction of the island’s second waste incinerator is moving forward, with the new facility expected to enter service in mid-2027 to help address the province’s growing waste disposal needs.

Phuket City Mayor Supachok La-ongpetch, together with municipal executives and representatives from relevant agencies, recently visited the Integrated Waste Management Center to inspect construction progress and review the installation of imported equipment.

Officials explained that the project had been delayed because ongoing conflicts in the Middle East disrupted the delivery of construction materials and specialized machinery. As a result, the completion schedule has been pushed back, and the plant is now expected to officially begin operations in June 2027.

Before the full launch, EA Waste Management Phuket Co., Ltd. plans to conduct a commissioning phase between April and June 2027 by gradually introducing waste into the facility’s bunker system to ensure all equipment operates efficiently.

The new plant will use a fully enclosed incineration system designed to reduce odors while limiting environmental and community impacts. Once operational, the facility will be capable of processing up to 500 tons of waste each day, significantly increasing the island’s waste treatment capacity.

The additional incinerator is expected to ease the burden on Phuket’s existing waste treatment plant, which has struggled to cope with rising volumes of garbage, while improving the province’s long-term waste management system.
