Phuket Raid Uncovers Illegal Cigarette Shop Operated by Teenager

A joint enforcement operation in Phuket Town led to the seizure of thousands of untaxed cigarettes and the detention of a 16-year-old girl who was found managing an illegal tobacco outlet.

According to officials, the raid was carried out this week by officers from Mueang Phuket District after authorities received information through social media reports regarding suspected sales of contraband tobacco products.

After gathering evidence, investigators obtained a search warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court and conducted an inspection of a shop located on Sri Suthat Road in the Talad Yai area.

During the search, officers discovered 378 packs of untaxed cigarettes, totaling 7,560 cigarettes, along with dozens of additional items considered relevant to the investigation.

Authorities filed charges related to the possession and sale of goods on which taxes had not been paid, as well as violations of customs regulations governing imported products.

The teenage shop attendant was taken into custody and transferred to investigators at Phuket City Police Station together with the confiscated evidence.

Officials stated that the girl's parents were immediately informed of the situation and emphasized that all legal procedures are being conducted in accordance with Thailand’s juvenile justice system and child protection laws.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue efforts to identify those responsible for supplying and operating the illegal cigarette business.
