Phuket Placed on Flood and Landslide Alert Through June 8

Authorities have issued a week-long warning for Phuket and five neighboring Andaman provinces, citing the risk of flash floods, landslides, and dangerous sea conditions as heavy rainfall is expected across the region.

Thailand’s Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) announced the alert on June 3 after assessing weather conditions together with the Southern West Coast Meteorological Center. The warning covers Phuket, Ranong, Phang Nga, Krabi, Trang, and Satun and remains in effect through June 8.

According to the agency, rainfall is expected to intensify along Thailand’s Andaman coast, with some areas likely to experience heavy to very heavy downpours capable of triggering sudden flooding and runoff from higher ground.

Forecasters also warned of rough sea conditions. Waves in the upper Andaman Sea are expected to reach 2–3 meters, while areas affected by thunderstorms could see wave heights exceeding 3 meters.

All six Andaman provinces have been placed under monitoring for potential flooding and landslides. Meanwhile, marine weather warnings specifically apply to coastal areas of Ranong, Phang Nga, Phuket, and Krabi.

For Phuket, the alert covers all three districts of the island province.

The DDPM advised captains, ferry operators, and other marine transport providers to exercise extreme caution while at sea. Officials noted that if weather conditions deteriorate further, authorities may consider imposing a complete temporary ban on vessels leaving port.

Provincial disaster response units have been instructed to maintain round-the-clock monitoring, prepare rescue teams and emergency equipment, and ensure evacuation centers are ready if conditions worsen.

The warning also extends to tourist attractions. Authorities have recommended restricting access to waterfalls, caves, and other natural sites where visitors could face increased danger during periods of heavy rain.

Beach operators have been instructed to display red warning flags, indicating hazardous sea conditions and advising against entering the water.
