Phuket on Flood Alert as Heavy Monsoon Rains Continue

Phuket authorities have stepped up flood-prevention measures as the island faces several days of heavy monsoon rainfall.

Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom said officials are closely tracking weather developments and have warned residents to stay alert for thunderstorms and intense rain expected between July 1 and July 3. The unstable conditions are being driven by the southwest monsoon affecting the Andaman Sea and much of southern Thailand.

To reduce the risk of flooding and other weather-related hazards, the province has activated its disaster prevention and mitigation plan. Authorities are preparing for possible flash floods, water accumulation in low-lying areas, rough seas, and landslides in vulnerable locations.

District offices and local administrative organizations have been instructed to clear blocked canals and drainage channels, speed up water drainage in flood-prone neighborhoods, and keep major roads open and safe for traffic.

Governor Chotnarin said emergency personnel, machinery, pumps, and other equipment have been placed on standby across the province. If any district experiences severe flooding or requires urgent support, additional provincial resources will be deployed immediately.

Officials said the goal is to reduce disruption to daily life and protect public safety during the current monsoon period, as Phuket continues to experience prolonged rainfall and unstable weather conditions.
