Phuket Officially Launches “Operation 90 Days” to Intensify Anti-Drug Crackdown

Phuket authorities have formally launched the nationwide anti-drug campaign “Operation 90 Days,” although enforcement activities and the first arrests under the initiative had already begun on the island last week.

The official opening ceremony took place on July 7 in front of Phuket Provincial Hall, where provincial agencies held a briefing followed by a symbolic deployment of officers assigned to the operation.

The event was led by Governor Chotnarin Kerdsom, who recently assumed office following a reshuffle within the provincial administration. It marked his first major public event as Phuket’s governor.

Representatives from all agencies participating in the campaign attended the ceremony, including the Royal Thai Police, military personnel, and enforcement units from the Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA). Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum was also present.

According to a statement released by Phuket Provincial Police, authorities will significantly intensify efforts to identify, arrest, and prosecute drug dealers, as well as locate suspects already wanted by law enforcement.

The campaign will also focus on dismantling drug trafficking networks and pursuing legal action under anti-money laundering legislation, allowing authorities to seize assets linked to narcotics-related crimes.

Officials said particular attention will be given to preventing the transportation of illegal drugs through all major routes. Measures include stricter inspections at the Tha Chatchai Checkpoint, enhanced monitoring of postal and courier deliveries, and tighter screening of passengers and luggage at Phuket International Airport to prevent drugs from being smuggled abroad.

Authorities added that individuals found using illegal drugs will be referred to treatment and rehabilitation programs in accordance with government policy.
