Phuket Expands AI Security Network as Authorities Strengthen Crime Prevention

Phuket officials have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening public security, highlighting the expansion of the province’s AI-powered "Phuket Eye" surveillance network during a high-level meeting on national security policies.

The Phuket Provincial Police Oversight Committee, chaired by Governor Chotinarin Kerdsom, met this week with senior police officers, committee members, and representatives from relevant government agencies to review progress on key security initiatives.

Discussions covered nine priority areas identified by the government, including:

• Preventing encroachment on state land

• Tackling cybercrime

• Investigating nominee business structures

• Combating illegal drugs

• Preventing money laundering

• Addressing the influence of criminal networks

• Solving informal debt issues

• Improving tourist safety

• Expanding the use of artificial intelligence through integrated security databases

One of the main topics was the Phuket Eye surveillance system, which currently connects more than 7,700 CCTV cameras across the island during its first phase of implementation.

The AI-assisted platform is designed to improve real-time monitoring, support crime prevention, and enable faster responses to incidents, while increasing confidence among residents and tourists.

Governor Chotinarin also reaffirmed Phuket's participation in the nationwide "Destroy Drugs, Defeat Criminals" campaign, emphasizing that authorities are combining prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation, and data-driven policing to achieve long-term results.

Phuket Provincial Police Commander Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum presented updates on recent operations targeting crime and narcotics, as well as efforts to protect residents and visitors.

He also reported continued investigations into illegal land encroachment, noting that 39 cases have already been prosecuted. Police urged all relevant agencies to speed up inspections while ensuring that enforcement remains transparent and fair.

Authorities said the overall objective is to further improve Phuket’s security standards, strengthen public confidence, and maintain the island’s reputation as a safe destination for international tourism.
