Phuket Cracks Down on Illegal Jet Ski Rentals, 23 Operators Fined

Authorities in Phuket have intensified inspections of jet ski operators, resulting in action against 23 illegally operated watercraft as part of a campaign to improve safety standards in the island's marine tourism sector.

The enforcement operation was carried out by the Phuket Regional Marine Office following instructions from Deputy Transport Minister Sornphet Boonyamanee, who recently visited the province and called for stricter supervision of maritime tourism businesses.

Beginning at 8:00 a.m., inspectors conducted checks and found multiple operators providing jet ski rental services without the required licenses.

Officials said the violations breached Section 9 of the Thai Navigation in Thai Waters Act, which regulates the operation of vessels in Thai waters.

Each offender received the maximum penalty of 10,000 baht, while 23 jet skis involved in the violations were seized during the operation.

According to authorities, the campaign is intended to improve tourist safety, ensure fair competition among licensed operators and strengthen confidence in Phuket's marine tourism industry.

Officials added that inspections will continue across the island to ensure businesses comply with maritime regulations.
