Phuket Confirms Free Public Access to Freedom Beach After Official Inspection

Phuket authorities have reaffirmed that Freedom Beach will remain freely accessible to the public following a large-scale inspection aimed at protecting public land and improving access for both residents and tourists.

The inspection took place on June 24 and brought together officials from several government agencies. The operation was led by Phuket Deputy Governor Pol. Lt. Col. Khetarat Chansilp, Mueang District Chief Siwatch Rawangkul, Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol. Maj. Gen. Sinlert Sukhum, and Phuket Forest Center Director Samphan Meesit. Representatives from the Agricultural Land Reform Office (ALRO) and forestry agencies also joined the inspection.

The visit forms part of the government's broader campaign to reclaim public land, improve transparency, and ensure fair management of tourist destinations, particularly in areas that have been the subject of land ownership and access disputes.

During the inspection, Samphan Meesit announced that the pedestrian route leading to Freedom Beach will undergo renovation and landscaping to make it safer and more convenient for visitors. He emphasized that the beach will remain free to enter, with no admission charges imposed on pedestrians.

Officials also stated that visitors should no longer face intimidation or pressure from individuals attempting to collect unofficial entrance fees. According to authorities, there will be no security personnel or other individuals preventing free access to the public beach.

Safety issues related to ATV transportation were also discussed. Due to the steep terrain and a history of accidents in the area, authorities plan to restrict ATV use primarily to emergency situations, including transporting injured or unwell visitors. Future regulations and standardized service fees are expected to be introduced to improve safety and prevent abuse.

Provincial officials said they will continue monitoring the management of Freedom Beach to ensure public access remains fair, transparent, and free from unauthorized commercial exploitation.
