Phuket Authorities Step In After Foreign Family Caught Begging with Child in Patong

Authorities in Phuket carried out a late-night operation in Patong after reports surfaced online about foreign nationals involving children in street begging.

According to the Phuket Provincial Social Development and Human Security Office, the inspection was triggered by social media claims that families from abroad were approaching tourists in crowded areas and asking for money, often accompanied by young children.

During the patrol, officials confirmed that a foreign family of Arab origin had been moving through restaurants and hotels in Patong, requesting financial assistance from visitors. Authorities documented the situation with photos and video as part of their investigation and stated that monitoring efforts would continue.

Officers encountered a woman with a child who was believed to be engaged in begging. Representatives from the Phuket Shelter for Children and Families spoke with her, explained the legal implications, and issued an official warning. A formal statement was also recorded to discourage repeated behavior.

Officials emphasized that protecting children remains a key priority. They noted that further action, including support measures under Thailand’s Child Protection Act, may be implemented to ensure that minors are not exposed to exploitation, particularly in busy tourist zones.
