Phuket Airport Launches Automated Passport Control to Speed Up Immigration

Phuket International Airport has officially launched its new Automatic Border Control (ABC) system, introducing biometric passport screening technology to streamline immigration procedures for international travelers.

The system became operational on June 13, 2026, allowing eligible passengers with electronic passports (E-Passports) to complete passport checks самостоятельно through automated gates. The initiative is aimed at reducing waiting times, improving passenger flow, and easing congestion at immigration checkpoints.

According to airport authorities, the ABC system is available only to travelers who meet the required eligibility conditions and hold valid E-Passports. Passengers without electronic passports, as well as those subject to additional inspection or special screening procedures, must continue using traditional immigration counters.

Officials said the introduction of the automated system represents another step in modernizing airport services and enhancing travel efficiency. By combining biometric verification with automated processing, the airport expects to deliver faster and more convenient immigration procedures while maintaining security standards.

The launch is part of broader efforts to improve the overall passenger experience and support the growing number of international visitors traveling through Phuket.
