A confrontation between a Thai employee at a travel agency in Phuket and an Israeli family has attracted widespread attention online after a Palestinian flag displayed at the business led to a heated exchange.

The video was published by the Phuket Times Facebook page on August 23 and quickly went viral. The exact date and time when the incident took place were not reported.

The footage shows the 24-year-old Thai employee holding a Palestinian flag and repeatedly shouting, “Free Palestine!” at the Israeli tourists. He also uses offensive language in both Thai and English during the confrontation. Toward the end of the recording, he can be heard saying, “This is my land. This is Thailand, not your land!”

The Israeli group appears to respond to the employee, although their words are not clearly audible. Several children accompanying the family are also seen sticking out their tongues at the Thai man.

The employee later told Phuket Times that the incident began after two Palestinian tourists visited the agency to book a rafting package. He described the customers as friendly and said they did not ask for a discount.

After their visit, a friend of the employee who supports Palestine suggested displaying a Palestinian flag inside the agency to attract more Palestinian customers. According to the employee, the idea was also intended to make Palestinian visitors feel welcome and encourage them to recommend the business to others.

The employee subsequently placed the flag on the counter. The Israeli family was reportedly shopping for clothes at a nearby store when one of the children noticed the Palestinian flag and called the other family members over.

According to the Thai worker, the group stopped and looked at him, prompting him to ask what had happened. One of the men, whom the employee believed to be the children's father, then asked whether he supported Palestine.

The employee explained that he had put up the flag to attract Palestinian customers. He said the Israeli man allegedly replied, “Free Israel,” after which the exchange escalated into the confrontation captured on video.

The Thai employee said he had never been opposed to Israeli tourists and had not previously expressed a personal position on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. He said he considered the issue unrelated to his personal life.

According to the employee, he reacted as shown in the video because he was upset by what he perceived as the behaviour of the Israeli group.

The footage prompted mixed reactions among Thai social media users. Some commenters supported the travel agency employee and praised his response, while others criticised the confrontation and warned that such incidents could further increase tensions between Israeli visitors and Thai residents in the area.
