Old Bangla Road Security Guard Clash Resurfaces Online, Officials Urge Context

A video that recently resurfaced on social media appears to show security guards from a nightlife venue on Bangla Road assaulting a foreign tourist in Patong. The footage, which has circulated widely this week, sparked renewed criticism online. However, local officials say the incident occurred years ago and was resolved shortly after it happened.

The clip shows a foreign man being escorted from a venue entrance before several guards continue confronting him on the street. In the footage, the tourist is seen being pushed, punched and kicked during the altercation.

Witnesses who reportedly observed the incident at the time told Thai media that the tourist had been intoxicated and was creating a disturbance outside the venue. Security staff attempted to remove him from the entrance area, but the situation escalated into a physical confrontation.

Although some social media users acknowledged that the tourist may have been behaving aggressively, many questioned whether the response from the guards was excessive and went beyond maintaining order.

Local sources told reporters that the incident did not happen recently. According to accounts from the time, three intoxicated foreign tourists were denied entry to the venue, leading to an argument and subsequent scuffle. Security personnel later stated that they were attempting to prevent the situation from escalating further.

Patong municipal councillor Weerawit Kruesombat expressed concern that the old footage was being shared again without proper context. He explained that the dispute had been settled privately long ago after discussions between the tourist and those involved. Compensation was reportedly paid and the matter was considered resolved.

Weerawit urged social media users and news pages to verify the date and background of viral videos before reposting them. Presenting old incidents as current events, he said, can create misunderstandings and negatively affect Patong’s image as a tourist destination.

Meanwhile, authorities noted that a separate altercation in Patong is genuinely recent. On August 13, two men became involved in a fight outside a hotel on Rachautit 200 Pi Road. The confrontation reportedly began with a verbal dispute and pushing before escalating into a brief exchange of punches. Bystanders eventually intervened and separated the men.

The cause of that incident remains unclear. Some reports suggest it may have stemmed from a traffic-related collision, while others point to a disagreement over passenger pickup routes. No formal complaints have been filed by either party.
