Myanmar National Arrested After Illegal Childcare Centre Shut Down in Phuket
Authorities in Phuket have shut down an unlicensed childcare centre in Wichit after local residents raised concerns about the facility. A 40-year-old Myanmar woman who was operating the service was arrested during the inspection.

The operation took place on August 26, 2026, when officers from Wichit Police Station, accompanied by the local village headman, went to inspect the premises following complaints from residents. The childcare service was being run from a rented row house without the required authorisation.
Police identified the operator as a 40-year-old Myanmar national. Officers determined that she was allegedly working in an occupation outside the scope permitted to foreign nationals and was operating a childcare centre without the necessary licence.

The woman was taken into custody and transferred for further investigation. Police are continuing to collect evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the operation of the facility. Investigators will determine whether additional charges should be brought before the case is forwarded for prosecution.
