Authorities in Phuket have reported a major success in their fight against drug trafficking after seizing a large quantity of narcotics during a coordinated operation.

According to Provincial Chief Officer Rungreung Thimabutr, the case began on March 31, when Phuket’s special operations unit received intelligence from officials in Thalang district about a planned drug transaction in Kathu. Acting on this tip, officers launched an undercover operation to verify the information and catch those involved.

Investigators contacted the suspect through the Line messaging app, posing as buyers and negotiating the purchase of 10,000 methamphetamine tablets worth 120,000 baht. Following the arrangement, Phuket Governor Nirat Phongsitthithavorn ordered a joint task force involving provincial authorities and local officials from Thalang and Kathu to move forward with the operation.

At around 8:00 p.m., the suspect, identified only as Mr. A, agreed to deliver the drugs near Bang Thong School in Kathu. When he arrived at the agreed location, officers approached and conducted a search with his consent.

During the search, police uncovered a much larger stash than expected. In total, they seized 32,000 methamphetamine tablets, packaged in 16 bundles, along with 56.35 grams of crystal methamphetamine (commonly known as ice).

The suspect was immediately arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including possession and intent to distribute methamphetamine, illegal drug use, and driving under the influence of narcotics. Authorities also confiscated additional evidence such as a digital scale, a Honda PCX motorcycle, a mobile phone, and cash.

Following the arrest, the suspect and all seized items were transferred to Kathu Police Station for further investigation and legal action. Officials emphasized that this operation is part of ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks and reduce the spread of narcotics across Phuket.
