Kazakh Woman Sparks Traffic Chaos and Crash After Emotional Breakdown in Phuket

A 30-year-old woman from Kazakhstan was injured after allegedly causing a series of traffic incidents in Phuket, including blocking major roads, fleeing from police and later crashing into a motorcycle and a van.

The incidents attracted widespread attention after videos circulated on Thai social media showing an SUV repeatedly driving in circles and obstructing traffic at an intersection on Thep Kasattri Road in Mai Khao, Thalang district, on Saturday, June 20.

Witnesses reported that the female driver ignored police instructions and left the scene before officers could intervene.

Tha Chatchai Police Station Superintendent Khundate Na Nongkhai later confirmed that the driver was a Kazakh national identified as Jamila. According to police, she drove away in a silver-bronze MG SUV before becoming involved in another incident at the Old Airport Intersection later that evening.

Emergency services responding to the crash found both Jamila and a Thai motorcyclist injured. They were taken to hospital for medical treatment. Investigators later confirmed that the woman involved in the collision was the same person police had been searching for following the earlier traffic disruption.

Police also linked Jamila to a previous incident that occurred on June 18 at Phuket International Airport. On that occasion, she reportedly used a Mazda sedan to block access routes near a parking facility, disrupting vehicle movements.

Airport staff asked her to move the car in order to reopen the road. Officers said the woman appeared emotionally distressed due to personal relationship issues and remained inside the vehicle for some time before eventually agreeing to cooperate.

After the airport incident, she was taken to Sakhu Police Station to rest, but authorities said her emotional condition did not improve and she later became involved in additional disruptive behaviour.

The case has generated considerable discussion online. One Thai resident commented on a Phuket Hotnews Facebook post, claiming she had encountered the same woman blocking roads on two separate occasions and had narrowly avoided a collision.

Many social media users have called on authorities to take stronger action against foreigners whose behaviour poses a risk to public safety.

Police have not yet announced what charges Jamila may face. Investigators said they are continuing to examine both the latest crash and the earlier incidents before deciding on further legal action.
