Interpol-Wanted Swedish Gang Leader Arrested in Phuket Condo

A Swedish national listed under an Interpol Red Notice has been apprehended in Phuket, marking another step in Thailand’s intensified efforts to target foreign criminals.

The arrest took place on April 9, when Phuket Provincial Police, in coordination with international partners, detained a suspect identified as Boran. He is wanted in Sweden on multiple serious charges, including murder, illegal possession of firearms, and involvement in drug trafficking.

The operation was conducted as part of a broader campaign aimed at tracking down foreign suspects who have either fled prosecution in their home countries or are using Thailand as a base for criminal activities.

Authorities worked closely with the Nordic Police Liaison Office to locate the suspect. Investigators linked Boran to a deadly shooting in the Årsta district of Stockholm and identified him as a key figure in a criminal network associated with violent crimes, weapons offences, and narcotics distribution.

Police eventually tracked him to a high-end condominium in Phuket, where he was arrested without incident during the afternoon.

Immigration records revealed that the suspect entered Thailand through Satun province on January 4 using a tourist visa. Initially granted permission to stay until March 4, he later extended his visa until April 3. However, by the time of his arrest, he had overstayed his visa by six days.

Before being extradited to Sweden, Boran will face legal consequences in Thailand for violating immigration laws.

This arrest follows a series of similar operations targeting foreign fugitives. In a recent case, authorities detained a Chinese national in Phuket accused of fraud, involving more than 30 victims who paid for goods that were never delivered. The total damages in that case were estimated at approximately 4.7 million baht.
