Injured Phuket Ride-Hailing Driver Seeks Justice After Crash with Wrong-Way Foreign Motorist

A motorcycle taxi rider working for a ride-hailing platform in Phuket has appealed for assistance after suffering severe injuries in a collision allegedly caused by a foreign driver travelling against the flow of traffic.

The case was highlighted by Phuket Times on August 18. According to the report, the foreign motorist was driving a sedan in the wrong direction when the vehicle collided with the rider’s motorcycle.

The impact left the Thai rider seriously injured. He was taken to hospital, where doctors diagnosed a broken leg and a dislocated hip. His motorcycle was also heavily damaged in the crash.

The rider told local media that he has not received any compensation from the foreign driver since the incident. Concerned that the case may not be resolved fairly, he decided to speak publicly and seek support through the media.

He explained that he is a single father and the sole provider for his family. His one-year-and-eight-month-old son currently lives with relatives in Yala Province while he works in Phuket to earn a living.

Because of his injuries, he has been unable to work and has lost his only source of income. He urged police and relevant government agencies to ensure the case is properly handled and that he receives fair compensation.

Authorities have not disclosed the nationality of the foreign driver. Details regarding the exact location of the accident and the police station responsible for the investigation have also not been released. It remains unclear whether the driver is still in Thailand.

The incident has renewed discussion about traffic accidents involving foreign motorists in tourist destinations. Similar cases reported earlier this year involved Thai victims seeking justice after serious crashes in which foreign drivers were accused of fleeing responsibility or avoiding accountability.
