A serious motorcycle collision in Phuket has left a foreign rider and a Thai woman in critical condition, reigniting public debate over road safety and motorcycle rentals on the island.

The accident took place on Sunday, June 28, along Sai Kor Road in Patong. CCTV footage shows a Thai woman riding a white motorcycle while a foreign motorcyclist approached from the opposite direction on a black bike.
According to the video, the foreign rider crossed into the oncoming lane before crashing head-on into the woman's motorcycle. Both riders were thrown onto the roadway by the force of the impact. A nearby white sedan stopped immediately, and passing motorists rushed to assist the injured pair.

Initial footage suggests the foreign motorcyclist may have lost control of the vehicle before entering the opposite lane. However, police have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the crash, and the investigation is continuing.
Emergency responders transported both victims to Patong Hospital, where they were reported to be in critical condition. Thai authorities have not released any further information regarding their medical status.
The incident has once again sparked concerns among Phuket residents about road safety, particularly involving rented motorcycles used by foreign visitors. Many locals have called for tighter regulations governing motorcycle rental businesses and stricter screening of customers before vehicles are handed over.

Others have urged police and government agencies to impose tougher penalties for dangerous driving, arguing that stronger enforcement is needed to reduce serious accidents and improve safety on Phuket's roads.
The crash comes shortly after another high-profile incident in which a British driver was arrested for drink-driving after crashing an SUV into traffic barriers at Chalong Intersection, further fueling discussion about traffic safety involving foreign motorists on the island.
