Foreign Tourist Accused of Assaulting Phuket Jet Ski Operator After Compensation Dispute

A dispute over compensation for damaged jet skis ended in violence on Patong Beach, where a foreign tourist allegedly assaulted a local jet ski operator after refusing to pay for the damage.

The incident occurred on July 8. The victim, Nattawut Date-iam, filed a complaint with Patong Police Station, stating that he suffered serious injuries during the confrontation. He also provided officers with video footage, photographs, and other evidence that he says identifies the foreign suspect.

According to Nattawut, the tourist, his wife, and their child rented two jet skis from his business on Patong Beach. During the rental period, the two watercraft reportedly collided, causing damage to both vehicles.

After the accident, the operator asked the family to compensate him for the repairs. He claimed they refused to pay and attempted to leave separately, with the woman departing in a ride-hailing vehicle while the man ran toward Bangla Road.

Nattawut said he followed the tourist and once again requested compensation. Video footage later shared with local media captured part of the confrontation.

The operator alleged that the foreign man denied responsibility before lifting him off the ground and throwing him down. He further claimed the tourist repeatedly punched him in the face before fleeing toward the Jungceylon shopping mall.

According to local reports, Nattawut suffered multiple bruises, facial swelling, and a fractured cheekbone. He said he deliberately chose not to fight back, preferring to let the matter be resolved through legal channels.

Police are investigating the incident.
