A foreign couple was taken into custody on May 4 after a video showing inappropriate behavior inside a moving tuk tuk in Patong spread rapidly online.

The incident gained attention after footage, reportedly filmed by a passerby, was shared on social media a day earlier. The clip shows the couple inside the vehicle while it was in motion, sparking widespread criticism and renewed debate over tourist conduct in Phuket.

According to reports, the video was captured by a Thai woman riding a motorcycle behind the tuk tuk. While recording, she expressed surprise at what she was witnessing and questioned why the couple did not wait until reaching a private location.
The footage quickly triggered backlash online, with many users condemning both the couple and the driver. Some questioned the driver’s responsibility for allowing such behavior to occur in a public setting. Others speculated about the individuals involved, though authorities have not confirmed any additional personal details.
Following the video’s circulation, officers from Patong Police Station launched an investigation and were able to locate the couple the next day. Police confirmed that both individuals are foreign nationals but have not released further identifying information.

Authorities stated that legal proceedings are underway, though specific charges have yet to be publicly announced.
This case is the latest in a series of incidents in Phuket involving inappropriate behavior by tourists. Similar situations in recent months have fueled ongoing discussions about maintaining public order and preserving the island’s image as a leading international destination.
