A foreign couple has been detained and deported after engaging in inappropriate behavior inside a tuk-tuk in Patong, triggering public backlash and renewed debate over tourist conduct in Phuket.

According to authorities, the individuals—a man from Spain and a woman from Peru—acknowledged their actions, explaining that they had acted impulsively. Footage of the incident quickly spread across social media, drawing criticism from both residents and officials, who said the behavior was inappropriate and harmful to Thailand’s image as a top travel destination.

Police in Patong located the couple shortly after the video went viral. They were charged under Thai law for committing a public indecency offense. Following the arrest, immigration authorities cancelled their visas and initiated deportation procedures.

Officials emphasized that such incidents are taken seriously and will be met with strict enforcement. The case highlights ongoing efforts by Thai authorities to maintain public order, uphold cultural norms, and protect the reputation of the country’s tourism sector.
