Five Boat Crew Members Arrested After Drug Tests at Phuket Pier

Five boat crew members have been arrested after testing positive for illegal drugs during a police operation at one of Phuket’s main piers.

The inspection was carried out by the Phuket Marine Police as part of a broader crime prevention campaign focused on the island’s ports and marine tourism areas. The initiative is intended to improve public safety and reinforce confidence among tourists using Phuket’s maritime transport services.

During the operation, officers conducted random drug tests on boat crew members and workers employed around the pier. Five individuals were found to have methamphetamine in their systems after urine samples tested positive for the drug.

Police said all five suspects admitted to using methamphetamine, which is classified as a Category 1 narcotic under Thai law.

The suspects have been handed over to investigators for legal proceedings.

According to the Marine Police, regular enforcement operations and surprise inspections will continue as part of efforts to keep Phuket’s ports, piers, and marine tourism sector safe for both employees and the large number of domestic and international visitors who rely on the island’s boat services.
