Fire Breaks Out at Worker Camp in Phuket’s Koh Kaew

A fire broke out at a worker camp in Koh Kaew, Phuket, on Sunday evening, August 9, but emergency crews managed to contain the blaze before it spread further. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The fire was reported at around 6:45 p.m. in Soi 24, Koh Kaew. The worker camp occupied an area of approximately two rai and consisted mainly of structures built from zinc sheets. Flames spread rapidly across the site, prompting an immediate emergency response and raising concerns about the safety of nearby residents and workers.

Disaster prevention and mitigation teams from the Koh Kaew Subdistrict Administrative Organization were dispatched to the scene with support from community leaders and other relevant agencies. Three water trucks were used to fight the blaze.

By around 7:40 p.m., emergency teams had brought the fire under control. Crews remained at the site afterwards, continuing to spray water over the affected area to reduce the risk of the flames reigniting.

Traffic police were also deployed around the incident site to manage congestion and help maintain safe traffic flow while emergency operations were underway.

Authorities confirmed that none of the workers at the camp were injured and that no deaths had been reported.

The cause of the fire has not yet been established. Officials are continuing to investigate what started the blaze.
