Eight-Year-Old Girl Dies in Motorcycle Crash on Phuket Road Under Construction

An eight-year-old girl was killed and her uncle injured in a collision involving a motorcycle and a six-wheel truck in Chalong, Phuket, on the evening of September 4.

The accident happened at around 5:10pm on Chao Fah East Road near a section of the road where construction work was underway. Deputy Inspector Pol. Lt. Phubodi Narinrat of Chalong Police Station received a report of the serious crash, prompting rescue teams from the Ruamjai Phuket Foundation to be sent to the scene.

When authorities arrived, they found the six-wheel truck, driven by a man identified as Mr Manatchai, stopped on the side of the road. A pink-and-black Honda Scoopy motorcycle was lying overturned nearby.

Rescuers found the body of eight-year-old Sirinya at the scene. She was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for the required procedures.

The motorcycle was being ridden by Sirinya’s uncle, who survived the crash but suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening. He was taken to Chalong Hospital for medical treatment.

Dashcam footage from passing vehicles provided investigators with an account of what happened before the crash. The motorcycle had reportedly been travelling alongside the truck before the rider attempted to change lanes near the construction area.

The rider then lost control of the motorcycle and fell. The truck subsequently ran over the motorcycle before coming to a stop.

Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the collision and determine exactly how the accident occurred. Legal action will be taken against anyone found responsible.
