Drunk Driver Charged After Fatal Crash in Phuket Kills Two, Injures Two

Two people were killed and two others injured in a serious road accident in Phuket’s Thalang district after an intoxicated driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle and struck several motorcycles.

According to Thalang Police, the crash occurred at around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, near the entrance to Ton Sai Waterfall in Thepkrasattri subdistrict.

Officers arriving at the scene found a damaged black Suzuki registered in Phuket. The vehicle was being driven by Aung Min Oo, a 42-year-old Myanmar national, who appeared heavily intoxicated. A subsequent blood alcohol test recorded 239 mg%, nearly five times Thailand’s legal limit.

Police said the driver first collided with a motorcycle ridden by Kanit, 60, leaving him with serious injuries. Instead of stopping, the suspect allegedly continued driving for approximately 100 meters before crashing into three additional motorcycles parked outside a shop.

The second collision injured Thanawit, 24, Niran, 36, and Mariam, 45. Emergency responders transported all four victims to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Doctors later confirmed that Thanawit and Mariam died from their injuries later that evening, while the remaining victims continued receiving medical care.

Investigators documented the crash scene and gathered evidence before charging Aung Min Oo with driving under the influence causing death. Police stated that the collision was the result of reckless driving while intoxicated.
