A Thai driver was seriously injured in a late-night crash on Phuket’s main highway after losing control of his vehicle and crashing into a tree.

The accident occurred around 11:40pm in the northern part of the island, on a section of Thepkrasattri Road near the entrance to the Supalai Bella residential area. Initial reports suggest a possible discrepancy in the date, with the incident likely taking place on March 27.
Emergency responders arriving at the scene found a heavily damaged black Honda Civic blocking the roadway. The vehicle had veered off course, mounted the curb, crossed onto the central divider, and collided with a tree before overturning.
The driver, identified as a Thai national, was trapped inside the wreckage and unconscious but still alive. Rescue teams extricated him and transported him to hospital for urgent medical care.
Preliminary findings indicate that the driver was travelling at high speed from his workplace near Mueang Thalang School toward his home when he lost control of the car.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether alcohol or other factors contributed to the crash. Police are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to determine the exact cause of the accident.
As of March 29, official data shows 43 road fatalities recorded in Phuket since the beginning of 2026, with one previously reported death later removed from the statistics. The number of injury-related hospitalisations has reached nearly 8,000.
Despite the severity of the crash, no new fatalities were recorded in connection with this incident.
