Bangkok Hospital Officially Opens Phuket Cancer Institute

Bangkok Hospital Group has officially inaugurated the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute, marking a new stage in the development of oncology services on the island. The opening ceremony was held on July 30 at Bangkok Hospital Phuket, according to The Phuket News.

The institute does not represent the launch of cancer treatment services from scratch. Instead, it brings together the existing oncology capabilities of three BDMS network hospitals—Bangkok Hospital Phuket, Bangkok Hospital Siriroj, and Dibuk Hospital—under a single organization with an integrated system for diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and long-term patient care.

The project has been developed over several years. In October 2023, BDMS announced plans to build the Phuket Cancer Center at Bangkok Hospital Siriroj with an investment exceeding 300 million baht. Designed as the first facility in Phuket and Thailand’s Andaman region equipped with its own radiation therapy unit, the center features a CT simulator for treatment planning, a linear accelerator, and brachytherapy equipment.

BDMS reports confirmed that the cancer center began operating in 2024, while by the end of 2025, oncology consultations and treatment were already being provided under the Bangkok-Phuket Cancer Institute brand. As a result, the July 30 ceremony officially recognized the institute as a unified medical center rather than marking the beginning of cancer treatment services.

The institute offers comprehensive oncology care, including cancer screening, diagnostics, surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, rehabilitation, second medical opinions, and ongoing follow-up for patients. Specialists from other BDMS facilities, including Bangkok Cancer Hospital Wattanosoth, also participate in patient care.

According to the institute’s director, Professor Art Hiranyakas, treatment is based on a multidisciplinary approach, with personalized care plans designed to reflect each patient’s condition while preserving organ function whenever possible and maintaining quality of life.

The opening ceremony was attended by Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Pansengiam, BDMS President Poramaporn Prasarttong-Osoth, senior executives from the BDMS healthcare group, representatives of foreign consulates, and medical partners.

The institute also includes an international patient center with multilingual staff providing assistance to overseas patients and their families. BDMS says the project is intended not only to strengthen Phuket’s healthcare system but also to support the island’s long-term development as a regional destination for medical tourism.
