Australian Tourist Sought After Assault Following Motorcycle Crash in Phuket

An Australian national is alleged to have fled the scene after assaulting another foreign motorcyclist following a traffic collision and compensation dispute in Phuket's Rawai area on July 14.

The incident was reported by the Phuket Times Facebook page, which published photographs showing the injured victim. The exact time of the incident was not disclosed.

According to the report, the Australian rider and another foreign motorcyclist were involved in a minor collision before stopping to determine who was responsible for the accident.

Unable to reach an agreement at the roadside, both men later travelled to a motorcycle rental shop, where one of the motorcycles had reportedly been rented. They attempted to continue negotiations regarding compensation for the damage.

The discussion reportedly ended without an agreement after the Australian rider allegedly refused to pay for the damage. A second argument then broke out at the rental shop.

According to witnesses cited by Phuket Times, the Australian allegedly struck the other foreigner several times after the victim had turned away. He then reportedly fled the scene on his motorcycle before anyone could stop him.

Employees of the rental shop attempted to pursue the suspect but were unable to catch him.

Images shared online showed the injured man with visible facial injuries and blood on his face.

It remains unclear whether the victim has formally reported the incident to police. As of now, authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the case.

The incident follows several similar road-rage assaults reported in Phuket over the past year. In February, a Swedish man allegedly attacked an Australian tourist during a road dispute, resulting in fatal injuries. Another case in December involved a Thai motorcyclist who claimed he was repeatedly punched by a foreign rider after a traffic collision.
