Australian Driver Arrested in Phuket After Viral Red-Light Incident

An Australian national has been detained in Phuket after a video showing a serious traffic violation in Kamala spread widely online.

According to local police, the incident took place at the Khok Yang intersection, where a black sedan with red stripes was seen blocking both entry and exit lanes. The driver ignored a red traffic signal, disrupting the flow of vehicles and putting other road users at risk.

Officers quickly identified the driver as an Australian man known as Mr. Wayne and moved to detain him shortly after reviewing the footage. A drug test was conducted and confirmed that he was not under the influence of narcotics at the time.

Police proceeded to file charges under Thailand’s Road Traffic Act. The driver was cited for failing to obey a red light and for not stopping at the designated line when required. Each offense carries a fine of up to 1,000 baht.

Mr. Wayne has since been fined and formally processed under the applicable legal provisions, with authorities reiterating the importance of following traffic laws to ensure safety on Phuket’s roads.
